Tier 1 is designed for educators, clinicians, and other professionals who want to apply the Collaborative Problem Solving® (CPS) approach with the kids in their lives. Participants will learn all three components of the approach – assessment, planning, and intervention. Attendees are also exposed to the neurobiology behind CPS and learn how CPS operationalizes the latest research on trauma-informed care. Tier 1 Training incorporates lectures, case studies, interactive role-play, video examples, and breakout groups. The training also provides practical guideposts and materials to help participants use the model in their daily lives. During this training you will: - Understand why traditional approaches may not be suited to the needs of children with social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. - Learn the philosophy of Collaborative Problem Solving® - Identify five cognitive skills that are frequently lacking in kids with challenging behaviours. - Recognize and list situations that are difficult for a youth. - Explain and discuss the concept of “skill not will.” - Revise expectations for youth that are realistic and age-appropriate - Compare the three primary interventions against the different goals of intervention - Learn how to effectively solve problems collaboratively with a child that demonstrates challenging behaviour while building skills and relationship Adapted from www.thinkkids.org Course Requirements: When registering, you are signing up for all three days. Attendance is required for each day as the learning builds upon the previous session's content. Participants with full attendance will receive a certificate of completion for 16 hours of training.
